PSP Customization
Flash at your own risk!
Installation Guide
Note:
Before attempting to make any customization make sure that you have enough free space on your flash0! You can use Flash Agent to check and free space on your flash0!
Flash Agent H11. Plug in your USB cable to your PSP.
2. Completely turn off your PSP and after 1 or 2 seconds, hold R and turn your PSP back on again. You should see the Recovery Menu.
3. From the Recovery, go to the Advanced section and select "Toggle USB (flash0)".
4. You should see the Removable Disk icon appearing in My Computer.
5. Click on Removable Disk and go to /vsh/resource/. Back up the opening_plugin.rco, 01-12.bmp, topmenu_plugin.rco, system_plugin_fg.rco, and system_plugin_bg.rco and anything that you would like to replace and customize.
6. After backing up all of the files above, overwrite the files with the ones you like.
7. Done!
Custom XMB IconSince writing this tutorial, easier ways to add custom icons to your topmenu_plugin.rco files have become available here is a GUI you can try, this doesn't only edit the topmenu RCO file, it also edit's other RCO files too, make sure to read the readme file that comes with Zingaburgas RCO editor.
Currently almost all of the
RCO can be edited in RCO Editor. Some example uses:
* replace icons
* replace sounds - support for both stereo and mono sounds
* replace text (longer text is supported)
* modify some page data

Custom XMB NamesUse RCO Editor v1.14d to edit the menu & and submenu names of your xmb.
1. Run RCO Editor then open your topmenu_plugin.rco with it.
2. Go to Text Data
3. When you click on any text data on the left side of the editor, like for example "msgtop_sysconf_update", its name or text would appear on the right side of the editor, in my example a text "Network Update" would appear.
4. From there you can highlight then delete or change the "Network Update" text to your liking.
5: Click on "change"
6: Exit the RCO editor and flash the topmenu_plugin.rco to the PSP.

RCO Editor v1.14dCustom BackgroundBy using 32bit icons you can use 480x272 monthly background image with wave.
1. Download the original monthly background image below (the rar file contain 1.bmp, 2.bmp - 12.bmp)

3. Decide which monthly theme you wanna use the fullscreen background, let say you want to use December theme.
4. Rename your png image that you have created; rename it to 12.bmp (if u want to set it into April, then u need to rename it to 04.bmp)
5. Copy the file and replace it into original 1-12 image
5. Run the .bat file (find in the rar file)...
6. Flash the 01-12 that u have just created

For 3.10 OE-3.40 OE its best to use a png image format size
480x255 to avoid white boxes appearing around icons when using a higher resolution.

Use Wave Flasher 3 to flash your system_plugin_bg.rco (custom xmb wave).
1. Just rename your system_plugin_bg.rco to whatever you want and stick it in the system_plugin_bg folder provided which should be in the ROOT of your memorystick.
2. Once you have all your custom .rco's in the system_plugin_bg folder, just simply run the program and you can select from them and easily install whichever one you want.

Custom GamebootI personally prefer redirecting the gameboot.pmf to ms0 (root of your MS) to avoid flashing every time you want to change your gameboot. And also to bypass the gameboot size limitation of CFW 3.02 OE up to 3.10 OEA2 that its size should not be larger than the original gameboot but it doesn’t mean that you can use a 5mb gameboot (300kb to 600kb is ideal).
Use flash Agent H1 to redirect the gameboot path.
1. Go to Firmware Hacks
2. Select “Redirect Gameboot.pmf to ms0:/gameboot/gameboot.pmfâ€
3. Exit Flash Agent
4. Copy your custom gameboot.pmf to the “gameboot†folder in the root of your Memory Stick.
If you want to create your own gameboot use pmf maker 0.2. The instruction for making your own gameboot is too long to post so refer to read me instead or you can just download some premade gameboot to avoid all that hassle.

Custom BootsoundFirst you need a hex-edited game_plugin.prx to have a custom bootsound without affecting psx:

how to use:
1.) access flash0 through recovery mode
2.) backup game_plugin.prx found in vsh/nodule
3.) paste the hex-edited prx in vsh/nodule. yes you will replace it as long as you backed it up already.
4.) go to vsh/resource
5.) rename opening_plugin.rco to 0pening_plugin.rco (as in number zero ung first character)
6.) paste your custom opening_plugin.rco in vsh/resource. you will not replace anything since you renamed the original one already.
7.) exit recovery mode and listen to your new coldboot! PSX Emu working perfectly!

Note: Some coldboot may prevent you from playing psx games because they use an opening_plugin.rco file from a different fw. But this one wont
FFVII PRELUDECustom Battery PicturesYou can make your own battery pictures with RCO Icon Editor.
Firstly, this has ONLY BEEN TESTED ON 3.03 OE-C and 3.10 OE. I believe it should work on all 2.71 SE and 3.0x OE.
For 3.10 OE, customized topmenu_plugin.rco files won't work, but it seems that customizing other RCOs (eg opening_plugin.rco) still works.
Also note, ALWAYS keep a backup copy of the RCO, incase either you or the program stuffs something up.
Now, that out of the way, it's quite simple to use:
1) Open your DECRYPTED RCO file (get them from a FW2.50 dump; no, 2.60
will NOT work)
2) Now you can either extract a DAT/MIG/BMP or replace an icon with a BMP or DAT. Note that only 8 and 32bit BMPs are supported. For 32bit BMPs however, you'll need to make sure there's 256 colours or less; otherwise it won't work.
If you liked the custom battery edits from undertaxxx, then maybe you'd fancy this next tidbit we're gonna share with you. PSP homebrew developer, vision, came up with custom color volume bars that you can use in your PSP's XMB. Current colors are red, blue, gold/yellow, and green. Check 'em out yourself:

Version Changer
Use “PSP CFW SE/OE Firmware Changer V6†to change the System Software.
Changing your version doesn’t mean changing your Custom Firmware, only the looks of it when you view your System Information. For example if I have a 3.03 OE-C and change it to 3.10 OE-A it doesn’t mean that I’m now using 3.10 OE-A, I’m still using 3.03 OE-C. It’s a version spoof actually.
Instructions of Use
1. Check that your psp is on a custom firmware by Dark_AleX (SE or OE, not including his first 1.50 custom firmware). If it isn't, you cannot use this app.
2. Connect your psp to your pc via usb. Then copy the vc folder supplied to X:\PSP\GAME150 (where X is the drive letter of your psp).
3. Disconnect USB and run the version changer like you would any homebrew app, and follow the onscreen instructions.

Home Screen Editor
Mister Chief has released Z33's Home Screen Editor over on our PSP Development forums. Just so there's no confusion, this app is Z33's and, as Mister Chief himself says, all credit goes to Z33.
Anyhow, Z33's Home Screen Editor allows PSP owners to change the home screen that they see on their handhelds when they press the Home button. The program itself is an executable, so you'll have to run it on your PC. For installation and usage instructions, please read the readme file included in the download.
The download below also includes nicinico's GUI for the home screen editor. If you have any questions, click the Visit link below.

This homebrew application, according to the file README, allows PSP users to "flash high-res backgrounds, icon sets, clicksound, volume bars, battery icons, fonts, and waves."

Fonts added
Recover function added
More available slots to save
Better navigating in menu
Bugs fixed
Graphics added
Usage instructions and contact details (in case of bugs) are available in the bundle's README file, which we recommend as a first stop before trying anything with Theme Swapper v1.0. PSP Easy Theme FlasherFile Description
PSP homebrew coder brethren passed by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to announce the release of the Easy Theme Flasher application. According to the developer, this homebrew gives PSP owners"the ability to first preview theme, the ability to flash theme, make a backup of all customizable files, (and) reflash backup."
Also included in this application are seven custom PSP themes, with credits going to homebrew developers evolve, MaDSouL, saizn, mrdude, blackskull, gSmoke, Undertaxxx, and Z33.
At the moment, brethren has developed two versions of Easy Theme Flasher - version 1.2 for PSP custom firmware *3.30 OE-A, and version 1.3 for Dark AleX's recently released custom fw 3.40 OE-A. In case the users run into any usage problems, we advise them to head over to brethren's thread over at the QJ.Net Forums for further clarifications. With that said, we hope you guys enjoy your download.

XMB Theme Cycler/Manager v0.5
PSP homebrew developer luizlizard has come a long way with the successive releases of the XMB Theme Cycler application, which has just updated today to version 0.5. This application, in case you're wondering, allows you to change your PSP's XMB themes every time you reboot. This latest release also includes a theme manager function, which now allows you to manually flash your themes. As for the complete features list:
Theme Manager (NEW!!!)
Automatic theme flashing at startup
Unlimited slots for saving themes
Configuration menu
Dummy font flashing -- Frees 2.5 mb in Flash0
Monthly theme cycling
Original theme backup
Scripting improvement over last release
As luizlizard (and we here at QJ) strongly advise: view the file readme before anything else, as mishandling this application may lead to bricks. We also highly recommends users to check out the QJ.Net Forums for additional info. Enjoy the download!
